I caught all but the first 20 min. Pretty good at showing the mess it is with both sides unwilling to compromise and slinging mud. Meadows approach with Bennett seemed like a really good way to approach this and I have to give a shout out to Bennett on his part as I am not normally a fan. I would like to see some cooler heads come to the table and settle this stuff with some give and take and cut out all of the harsh rhetoric from both sides.

GSPman, Red-Grouse and Kirklan's post on page 4 of this thread are very good!

I watched it. It was good! I still feel the same..we need Wilderness areas of differing types/zones in our State.

I also think there should be areas that are considered sensitive where development and roads should be curtailed. What I don't agree with is the massive land grab that is currently before congress.

America's Red Rock Wilderness Act seeks to permanently protect more than 9 million acres of wilderness in Utah. (Notice the word permanently) This act has been submitted to Congress every 2 years with the hope that someday they will get enough support to get it passed. Most of the support comes from eastern congressmen. In fact one of the sponsors is from New York.

Here is a copy of the map of areas considered for Wilderness. I am sure some of you are familiar with some of the designated areas and frankly I don't think most of them should be considered Wilderness.

Currently grazing and hunting is still allowed in Wilderness Areas. However, if Western Watersheds has it's way, there would be no grazing at all on public lands. I know some of you think this isn't such a bad thing, but ranchers have historically been on the same side of the fence with hunters on most issues. Sure they are trying to make a buck, but there is a lot of private land in sensitive areas that is needed to sustain wildlife.

Anti-hunting groups have consistently sided with Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance and Western Watersheds. If you don’t think these groups support each other and their agenda's then you are a little misinformed. I won't use the slippery slope analogy, because this Wilderness Act is an avalanche and it is real and not imagined.

You are spot on and alot times these land grabs happen in the middle of the night. We need to pay attention for sure... Not familar with your map but keep a close eye on idaho nevada and oregon. We all just need to pay attention. Mosty of these bills are just ear marks....

FWIW, I know exactly what an earmark is.

And again I retort.................Huh?

I watched the show, very well done. Kinda makes you embarrased to be Utahn or at least from Southern Utah. Like Chuk&duk i really liked where a marriage of wilderness and newage come together. I think bennet is an ***, but I do commend him for that.

Here's what I don't get. The "right" side seems to only be about "the economy, the economy, the economy." Enough already. Its all about ME. MY country. MY land. The west MUST be won. It MUST be conquered. It MUST be pillaged! Its gods will. God put it here for US and US alone!

I've never understood that mode of thinking.

What the "right" don't seem to get is the importance of WILD places...and NONE of them have to do with the economy or money or greed.

Perhaps thats why they don't understand.

The best way to share your point of view with someone is to insult them and call them names.
