lvrgsp wrote:Ok Cliffs note version on Ferrel......alot of the white dogs started out with some Riggins White Knight breeding, over time and selective linebreeding the white dogs and Miller have become synanamous. While most recently and notably almost all of Millers dogs will trace back to Millers Chief or Millers Silver Bullet. Chief and Bullet were staples and foundation dogs for Ferrel. Chief and Bullet while ran many times at the nationals and both being HOF dogs, along with Ferrel himself neither dog nor Ferrel won it until True Spirit came along and took home the prize in 2002, although there have been many Miller bred dogs to win the national with other owner/handlers. Bullets record speaks for itself, he has produced hundreds of winners with thousands of placements, according to the papers..(I'll get to that in a minute). Ferrel like him or hate him he has probably had the single greatest influence on the Major circuit AA pointer in the last decade, in turn his dogs have produced winners in just about every venue known to the pointer. He is a breeder/trainer/competitor, he wants to win everytime down. In any given year at the national you will probably find at least 3 or more Miller bred dogs in the running, they are consistant, and the highest percentage of gaining an AA dog around here (Illinois) that I know of.
Now the breeding part as Elkhunter stated, there was a mix up on some DNA in Millers Online when he won the National, it was the bitch who was wrong not the sire, Millers dog, there were other things that evolved that resulted in his being banned.
I'll interject my on opinion here on this.
Here you have a man who has bred and developed a strain or line within a breed for many years who has been succesful at breeding and winning, who is very subjective about his breeding program. Now I am in favor of DNA but I for one can see how one would not want the free world knowing every breeding secret that I have worked many many years at developing to hand that knowledge over to someone out to make a cheap buck or a quick win, right or wrong thats my thinking on it.
Do you think he bred them because the papers lined up? ( like so many do these days ) I don't think so! He knew what he was looking at, and still does, ever wonder why his close constituents get his winning dogs? Many of them have had a great deal of success with Miller dogs
Hoyle Eaton, Joe Don House, Gary Lester, The Huffmans, Nathan Phillips, and many more.
Anymore questions I will try to answer them for ya....

And for all those interested parties, Happy Jacks the real deal........
Elkhunter wrote:I dont think that trying to protect a line-breeding secret justifies becoming a cheat and a fraud IMO. If your saying the dog is out of two certain dogs, it better well be from those two dogs. You dont lie to protect something that has been successful for an individual. He sold a $hit load of puppies based on his line and reputation. Obviously he was caught and thats why he was banned. To bad we just cant all be honest!! And I do have a pup that Millers Online is his grandad and he has been DNA'ed. So I am good.

Elkhunter wrote:Chip, I dont know the whole story, I know what I read. Obviously that is just one side of the story. Either way I know he did "something" dishonest to get banned. As for all the pointer people doin it, thats why Jack will be the last dog I buy from abroad. And I made 5-6 different phone calls to make sure I was dealing with someone who was an honest and reputable individual before I bought Jack. I will be buying in my own backyard from now on. You just hear way to many things like this happening. I will be buying from people I trust and know.lvrgsp wrote:So you have a dna'd g-son of Online huh? So that makes you good huh?
I meant "good" as in I know he is actually out of Millers Online. Not as in I am better than anyone else. I have yet to win a trial, so not that "good" yet, but things are looking up for this fall!lvrgsp wrote:Funny how you mentioned him being an Online G-son and not a HOf g-son of Erins Southern Justice or a son of CH Heyu Two Pete? We were talking about Millers dogs not Southern Justice or Heyu Two Pete. Thanks for the compliment on his breeding I like him alot so far.
I am fully aware of the positive impact that Ferrel Miller had on the EP. Thats mainly why I bought Jack. I dont know him personally, he is probably a great guy. But at the same time I get bugged when people try to justify something dishonest, especially because "everyone does it". Majority of The US cheats on their spouses, but I still think its wrong and IMO nothing justifies doing it.
And no I would not cull my dog if he was not DNA'd, I would just hope that the breeder/kennel was honest with me. And I am actually putting my "Sutherland" pre-fix on him, not Millers.
